  1. Prize list updated with this new option, easy pick for now given that I'm not taking part in the contest! 😄 A Nightwish Story - 5-day access ticket to the virtual exhibition.
  2. Premiering tomorrow, the next live song is "Storm In A Glass" (from Northward).
  3. Oh? This is unexpected... The virtual show is available right now on a new(?) streaming platform called STACCS where other Nightwish productions will also be made available shortly. https://staccs.com/nightwish Many questions spring to mind: What is this new service and is it a better deal for the artists than say Netflix or Amazon? Remember that virtual Nemo was released on Amazon Music. Is it the same show or a remastered-remixed version? Will there still be a DVD? Where is Staccs available? It's certainly not in Canada. 😮 Ok I found the press release... it doesn't bode well for a DVD, but Staccs is only available in part of Europe for now. 🤔
  4. The instrumental piece Crimson Tide/Deep Blue Sea was played only during this 2000-01 tour, and has been immortalized on the "From Nightwish To Eternity" DVD. Its purpose was to give Tarja a mid-show break for resting and changing into fresh clothes. It's a medley of two pieces of movie score, "Roll Tide" from the Crimson Tide soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, and "Aftermath" from the Deep Blue Sea soundtrack by Trevor Rabin. "Roll Tide" will also be used as an intro (playback) piece leading to the show opener, from at least 2009 up to 2016 during the EMFB tour, but possibly earlier as well. 5. Samppa Hirvonen Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/samppa.hirvonen Born May 18, 1978 Not a formal Nightwish member, but a live session bassist for the 7 shows of the Angels Fall First tour (1997-98). Can be seen on the left here: Went on to play in Division 19, a Finnish melodic death metal band that was active up until about 2016. https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Samppa_Hirvonen/2051 Also seen working as a producer/sound engineer in Kitee. 6. Making some progress finding suitable recordings of the songs that never made it to DVD. It's surprisingly difficult to find quality recordings of Floor singing the Imaginaerum-era songs like Slow, Love, Slow, Scaretale or The Siren. Anette singing Eva was also hard to find. If you know of better videos of any of the songs above, do let me know! Do you have a favourite version of Tarja singing Stargazers or Gethsemane? The latter was cut from the From Wishes to Eternity DVD, unfortunately.
  7. Tarja on tour in May 2022, Finland only. (from her Facebook)
  8. Marko will play Kuopiorock next summer, I take it that Nightwish won't because they just did this year. It's probably only a matter of time until they run into each other. Is it too early to think about Nightwish inviting Marko to take the stage and sing Endlessness for old times sake? 😏

Indeed, Johanna makes everything fantastic! 🤩 Looking forward to the album, sometime in 2022...
  10. I like it! 😀 The keys and strings sound very early-Nightwish IMO. Did you every play on a pipe organ? And do I hear just a hint of the Escapist melody in the strings?

    Eye Of Melian

Here you go, the first single: "The Bell". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX30ufIN90A I find it very reminiscent of Auri music, of course with Johanna singing, but also in the genre. Only one listen so far, but there's a lot to like here. Very far from Delain's brand of metal though. Edit: Here's a better link, with a video to boot.
  12. A show in Romania added on August 1st 2022. Meanwhile no news about whether the Chinese dates in January will happen.
  13. An update from Floor: It's a short 15 minute documentary, but it's well filmed and touching, and spends some time filming the fans themselves. As mentioned, will be available to everyone shortly.
  14. This may be of interest among the unending flow of GLS reactions... Charlie Calotta (Big Brain Singer) re-reacts to the song in a celebration of the first anniversary of his original reaction and YouTube debut. Cheesy? Totally. But his comments do bring some added value given that he's musically educated.
  15. Nightwish music videos You can find them all here: https://www.nightwish.online/music/ But let's dig into the details: Angels Fall First (1997) "The Carpenter" (1998, director Sami Käyhkö) Apparently scenes with the band playing were filmed but ultimately abandoned. Hoping for that footage to surface one day! Actor: Vilho Olavi Laine. 💿 From Wishes To Eternity Oceanborn (1998) "Sacrament of Wilderness" (1998, director Sami Käyhkö) Filmed live during the November 13, 1998 Kitee, Finland show. 💿 Wishmastour 2000 "Sleeping Sun" (1998, director Sami Käyhkö) Filmed in the Lapland mosquito hell. The mosquito bites on Tarja are painfully obvious despite the make-up and digital touch-ups. 😬 💿 From Wishes To Eternity Wishmaster (2000) No music videos! 🤔 Over The Hills And Far Away (2001) "Over the Hills and Far Away" (2001, director Pasi Takula) Not to criticize Sami Käyhkö's work, but this is the first professional-looking Nightwish video and it's aging well. Actor: Ewo Pohjola (wizard). 💿 End Of Innocence Century Child (2002) "Bless the Child" (2002, director Pasi Takula) 💿 Bless The Child single "End of All Hope" (2002, director Pasi Takula) Mix of live scenes filmed at the July 13, 2002 Tuska Open Air show and scenes from the fantasy-horror movie "The Book Of Fate". 💿 End Of Innocence Once (2004) "Nemo" (2004, director Antti Jokinen) Filmed at Angel Studio in Helsinki, Finland. Actress: Laura Tohmo. Making-of: TV documentary (in Suomi), "The Making Of Nemo" (from 💿 Nemo single), pictures from the shooting 💿 Nemo single "Wish I Had an Angel" (2004, director Uwe Boll) Filmed in Wiesbaden, Germany. Including scenes from the horror movie "Alone In The Dark" by the same director. Making-of: "Wish I Had An Angel Video Shoot" (from 💿 Wish I Had An Angel single; actually more of an interview with the band) 💿 Wish I Had An Angel single "The Siren" (2005, Silver Style Entertainment) This video sponsored by their German label turned out so really really awful that the band refused to use it, so there was no official release except for the Nuclear Blast website. "Sleeping Sun" (2005, director Jörn Heitmann) Picture gallery 💿 Sleeping Sun single Dark Passion Play (2007) "While Your Lips Are Still Red" (2007, director Markku Pölönen) Composed for the soundtrack of the movie "Lieksa!", also directed by Markku Pölönen. The video features scenes from the movie including actors Samuli Vauramo and Jenni Banerjee. From the band only Marko and Tuomas are seen in the video. 💿 Amaranth single, Dark Passion Play Tour Edition "Amaranth" (2007, director Antti Jokinen) Filmed at the Poodle Parlor Studios in Los Angeles CA and the Golden Oak Ranch. Based on the painting "The Wounded Angel" by Hugo Simberg. Actors: Anya Monzikova, Matthew Frankel, Dalton Foster. Making-of: "Shooting Some Amaranths" (from 💿 Amaranth single), more behind-the-scenes 💿 Dark Passion Play Tour Edition, Made In Hong Kong "Bye Bye Beautiful" (2007, director Antti Jokinen) Filmed at the Poodle Parlor Studios in Los Angeles CA. Apparently designed to make fun of the rumour that Anette Olzon was chosen as the new singer because of her looks. Actresses: Ines Brigman (guitarist), Leslie Crow (bassist), Kyra Hultz (keyboardist), Alicia Sixtos (drummer). Making-of: "In Between The Bye Byes" (from 💿 Bye Bye Beautiful single, Dark Passion Play Tour Edition) 💿 Dark Passion Play Tour Edition, Made In Hong Kong "The Islander" (2008, director Stobe Harju) Filmed in Rovaniemi, Finland. Actors: Hannu Vuorinen, Troy Donockley. No separate behind-the-scenes video but included in the Making Of Imaginaerum documentary. Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015) "Élan" (2015, director Ville Lipiäinen) Filmed in various abandoned locations in Finland. Actors: Seela Sella, Antti Litja, Ismo Kallio, Eeva Litmanen, Vesa Vierikko, Pekka Huotari, Urho (the snowy owl). Making-of (some snippets): "Release Of The First Single" 💿 Endless Forms Most Beautiful Tour Edition "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (2015, director Ville Lipiäinen) Lyric video featuring the band playing in a CG steampunk environment. 💿 Endless Forms Most Beautiful Tour Edition Human Nature (2020) "Noise" (2020, director Stobe Harju) Filmed in Helsinki, Finland. "Ad Astra" (2020, director Ville Lipiäinen) Lyric video promoting the band's partnership with the World Land Trust charity. Spoken word by Geraldine James. Yesterwynde (2024) "Perfume Of The Timeless" (2024, director Ville Lipiäinen) Including footage of diver Guillaume Néry filmed by Julie Gautier (from "One Breath Around The World") Including footage filmed at the Natural History Museum at Tring (UK) "The Day Of..." (2024, director Stobe Harju) Shot at Valofirma / Lighthouse Studios "Lanternlight" (2024, director Stobe Harju) Shot at Valofirma / Lighthouse Studios From the band, only Floor is seen in the video (and presumably Tuomas' hands playing the piano). To be updated as more information becomes available, do let me know if you can add to this!
  16. Post upcoming on that topic, I never knew there were so many video making-ofs! 😮🤘

  19. That was a nice performance of Ever Dream! The arrangement is a bit mellower but all in all a satisfying performance. So I take it that the songs will be released in the setlist order for the next 20 weeks or so. For reference here's the September 3, 2021 show setlist: Ever Dream (Nightwish) Storm In A Glass (Northward) Nemo (Nightwish) Mama (cover, Beste Zangers) Sweet Curse (ReVamp) *with Henk Poort Dangerous Game (cover, YouTube) *with Henk Poort Euphoria (cover, YouTube/Beste Zangers) Face Your Demons (After Forever) Winner (cover, Beste Zangers) Slow, Love, Slow (Nightwish) Shallow (cover, Beste Zangers) Strong (After Forever) Élan (Nightwish) Energize Me (After Forever) Qué Se Siente (cover, Beste Zangers) Bridle Passion (Northward) Our Decades In The Sun (Nightwish) Let It Go (cover, YouTube) Wolf And Dog (ReVamp) The Phantom Of The Opera (cover, Beste Zangers) *with Henk Poort It's nice that we will have pro recordings of two Nightwish songs that either haven't been performed live (Our Decades In The Sun) or haven't been recorded for DVD (Slow, Love, Slow). 👍
  20. Ok, I don't have a good feeling about this! 😆 I'm intrigued by the making-of videos, now I'll have to look them up!
