  1. Oh and a few videos from Qstock have started appearing... Let's see: It appears to be a shorter set, they skipped 7DTTW, Ever Dream and Shoemaker (compared to Oulu) Noise - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3WtqDEoacE Planet Hell - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwQ09a1RZrw Tribal - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOnvLKz-z_w Harvest - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2pvmbir_p8 Ghost Love Score - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYLeZay-LQk Sound quality of those recordings is not as good as those from Oulu, but still nice to see the band going at it. Harvest sounds good live, Tribal is a winner, and I'm stoked to hear Planet Hell live again. Still wondering what had them offset Kai to the right of Tuomas? Looks like they're keeping the setup.
  2. Sounds amazing! 😄 Glad that you enjoyed yourself! Seeing them up close in such a small(er) venue is an unforgettable experience! Even from the YouTube videos it's obvious it was a great performance, being there feeling the music is something else! And they all seem to be quite happy to be back on tour too! 🤘 "Waiting for Nightwish"... clever guy! 😆 And they had exclusive merch!? 🤩 Awesome, that's unique stuff that won't be seen again! Well done! 👍 And I love that owl design, I think it looks badass.
  3. Big week-end ahead with two back-to-back gigs! It's almost unreal, after 2+ years of not touring. Let's see what this show looks like on a bigger stage! 🤘
  4. Oh wait there's a lyrical video too! Tuomas comments: "'The Valley' is an ode to homecoming. It's about things worth a long wait, and about all the wondrous waypoints on the road. And, while you're wandering on that road, why not write a little tune to keep you company. A tune most delicate and hard to catch, but willing to reveal itself once you've made your journey, and have almost reached home."
  5. From Anette's FB: So my dear ones - have you any thoughts of my new songs so far? Sick of you and Parasite- different songs but still a good showcase of my coming album September 10th which is faster than Shine and for me this is not a sequel cause they were made with so different styles and I hope you can enjoy both these stylesthe growls on some of the songs are done by my dear husband @be4dark and I really love it! Proud wife Drums by the amazing @oldbarndrumstudio and gosh how great he is! Co- writing as well as being my co-producer and of course making the other music and amazing guitars none other than @magnuskarlssonguitar and mixed and mastered by the only @hansen_jacob I must say it’s a dream team! In not so long a new single will be out and this one is @frontiersmusicsrl favorite so stay tuned #anetteolzon @patricullaeus
  6. I'm waiting for reactors to start reacting to bootleg recordings from this tour. Mark my words, it's coming! 🙄
  7. Pearl Diving was a grower for me, I wasn't sure at first listen but I must say I love it to pieces now... So I'm ready for the second single! 😲 (available on YT around midnight depending on your time zone) The Valley
  8. Hey Moondance, welcome to these parts! 🤘 Thanks for sharing your NW story! 2012 was an exciting year to join the craze, with all the Anette and Floor drama... Actually, you got to see Anette perform barely days before she left the band! 😲 You must tell us about that show one day! Yeah I was gutted when Toronto was cancelled, I had tickets too even though it's a long ride from my place. I don't know what happened, whether they didn't sell enough tickets or were there visa issues or promoter issues? But yeah, I'm holding hope that they add dates to their North American tour down the road. Anyway, feel free to look around and don't touch anything you're very welcome to share your NW experiences! 😃
  9. Of note, the opening act Asim Searah (who's also a live guitarist for Wintersun) sang The Islander, and it was actually pretty good! Played slightly faster than the original, interestingly. Maybe he's pitching to replace Marko? Nightwintesunwish, here we go! 😁

Anyway, what a hell of a good show! I mean, this was the first real live show they were doing together in more than 2 years, and it looked like they had everything under control! I know I could have expected as much since they were already very good in the virtual show, but wow. Can't wait to hear from Ocean Soul who was actually there. 😲
  11. More videos from the Oulu gig on YouTube: Shoemaker - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkmOsq4btEQ Ghost Love Score - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aczad_CHONU (good times: Emppu jumbling the end of his solo in GLS! 😁) Shoemaker - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-Uef2m_dMA Sleeping Sun - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5CQsjttqAw Ever Dream - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PB827lqrjo Harvest - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-h5gXTAdyt0 Tribal - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3hyKxehcs0 Planet Hell - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7-yBE1PRcA Noise - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6QQw-oTpXY

  13. What time is it in Finland? Must be almost show time! 😄
  14. I discovered this clever tool recently on another forum. It's basically a database of songs using samples from other songs... For example, have a look at the Nightwish results: https://www.whosampled.com/Nightwish/?ob=0 There's even an easy way to compare originals and derivative works using YouTube videos, like here: https://www.whosampled.com/sample/360036/A286-Aciona-as-PeçAs-Nightwish-Angels-Fall-First/ It also includes covers of Nightwish songs, like this cover of She Is My Sin. https://www.whosampled.com/cover/87459/Naamah-She-Is-My-Sin-Nightwish-She-Is-My-Sin/ Fun! 😁
  15. "Sick Of You" has a lyric video now...
  16. Here's one with Tarja this time, from June 2004 during the Once tour. https://www.reflectionsofdarkness.com/artists-k-o-interviews-87/82-nightwish-june-2004 Nightwish - June 2004 Written by Silvia Deurwaarder Published: 19 February 2005 Interview with: Tarja Turunen There are moments in life for which you are longing, no matter how short they give you a feeling you want to hold on to forever. This is the case with the interview with Nightwish; who literally showed me another world with the release of ‘Over the hills and far away’. The success of the band from Kitee, Finland seems as much of a fairytale as the world they create with their music. They established themselves with early adaptors with the release of ‘Wishmaster’, but the commercial success came with the album ‘Century Child’. This album was in many ways the turning point for the band and with the release of ‘Once’ they have reached yet another height in the fairytale called Nightwish. The interview with Tarja will be a moment of pause to look back but also forwards. Don’t expect a elaborate background story, but a emotional story of singer who still dares to dream. Tarja walks in hastily and apologises for arriving to late. There were some trouble with the van which was to drive the band form a signing session in Nijmegen to the festival. Still she looks fit, no thanks to the tensions concerning the show of that evening. “This festival is very strict and we have only one hour. Too much fireworks have been ordered, so all songs will be full of it.” The show on Dynamo Open Air this evening will be the kick off for the ‘Once’ tour which will last until the end of 2005. They will play many familiar songs but also some new ones to see how the audience reacts to them. The singer of Nightwish has a very clear opinion about performing on festivals and speaks about it energetically (she even takes her sunglasses of for it). “Of course we prefer concerts, but they both have their plus points. Especially with concerts you can rely on the technique. With a festival there are loads of people to see you, you loose time with the sound check and uncertain about how the show will go you enter the stage. Still, the first song has to be perfect, but it is always nice to see so many different people have come to see us. It feels great to see familiar faces in the audience; that is fantastic” Tarja talks soft to save her voice. She has picked the corner of the dressing room farthest from the stage but still the sounds from Children of Bodom reach us, we can clearly hear they are finishing their show at this time. She moves closer to be able to keep speaking with such a soft voice. Regularly she apologises to either blow her nose or take a sip of water. “No, I don’t have a cold but my voice is my weakness, because it is my instrument I have to be very careful with it.” Now and then band members walk in, they all seem very busy. Tarja explains that their will be another signing session at the festival later on and their not really looking forward to it because they expect a huge crowd." With ‘Once’ the band has proven again to be able to easily extend the famous Nightwish sound with new elements. Tarja smiles proudly after this remark. “Yes of course we will stay the Nightwish you’re used to, but I think the band has more of a live sound with these heavy guitar riffs. It is more grand as well, due to the cooperation of the ‘London Symphonic Orchestra’ with which we created an entire new world of sound. There’s less keyboard in the songs now but on the other hand it is still easy to listen to” After a silence in which she stares pensively she ads: “I think it’s amazing, hopefully we’ll grow more and more in the future." With this said, the dreamy side of Tarja surfaces. With passion she talks about the classical world she is in now. “Since our start in 1997 we have been able to reach more people with each album and that is great. Al of a sudden we have so much success you almost don’t dare to dream anymore”. Choosing her words carefully she continues: “It may be funny to say but it really is a dream come true. It all went so fast and we’ll just keep on going following our dream one way or the other.” Still everything has it’s downside. Tarja also feels there are two sides to all things and she obviously has trouble getting used to the fame: “it is hard to handle the success. In Finland for instance I can’t walk down the street without being recognised or being stopped for an autograph. It is funny that we sell more over there than Britney Spears. It is hard for it is an honour of course but it is not easy to live with these two faces. Oh well I can’t complain, it is my profession and I’ve got the chance to make music.” What keeps her going? A smile appears and without any doubt she says: the classical music and Nightwish. After this there is no holding her for she really wants to tell about her enthusiasm for the combination of these two styles of music. “Those two go hand in hand. When I grow in classical music, I grow in Nightwish and the other way round. It is the same media but still in two different worlds. With classical music I have no sound amplifiers and I feel totally naked, then I have to give myself more because you hear my real voice. You’re a singer every day, you get sick easy and there are many things I have to take care of, it is a lifestyle.” Still the conversation leads us back to ‘Once’. Tarja dampens her voice and Is careful about the message the album is carrying. “Actually there is no message for all songs, more than on the other albums, are separate songs. They are mostly songs which come from the diary of Tuomas. He is no big fan of a concept album or telling people how to live their lives. It is about sharing emotions. If you listen to the radio these days there is hardly any music which touches me and I need that. We really want to share our emotions.” According to Tarja the source of inspirations is the inner world of Tuomas, who is sitting opposite of her and doesn’t want to say much about it. The question comes to mind whether it is not hard for him to translate his emotions in to a song. Tarja thinks about this and then nods. “He is very open in his music. He tells what he really feels. You can read the lyrics and that will be enough. I try to feel that and reflect these emotions. Some songs are easier than others of course, but I interpret them in my own way. It is the soul of everybody in the band.” When making the album these emotions surface again: “Everybody makes their arrangements for a song. We all talk it over with Tuomas and usually I am the last one to go to the studio, but the rest of the band really works hard together. We have a very strong connection.” According to Tarja the contribution of the new bassist Marco, who first appeared on Century Child, has to do with this as well. “We are really close now and you notice this when you see us on stage.” Tarja laughs at the question to take a peek in to the future. “We are booked full until the end of 2005. Tuomas will keep on writing, he is probably thinking about his musical ideas now, for he is very close to his lifestyle now and we will see how tired we are when we get back. Of course the story continues … If we don’t get sick of each other during our tour” she ads laughing. We'd like to thank Tarja, Nuclear Blast, Janis of Mojo concerts, Ewo, Toni and Nightwish.

  18. Thanks, good advice! So it's probably best to choose a moment when I can fully focus on the movie, given that it's so bizarre. 😁 Ok thanks for the offer, you're doing great with the quizzes so far, I don't have specific ideas right now but I'm sure it will come!
  19. Well the excitement is building up, Floor on Instagram is showing a bit of the rehearsals in Oulu, The Greatest Show is playing in the background... 🤩 I wonder if there will be any changes to the setlist from the virtual show... or whether they will go with the setlist from the first or second show? I'd choose Shoemaker over Pan, although I'd rather they do both... but maybe Showmaker won't be a regular, given the vocal challenge. And Tribal, I hope it stays on the list.
  20. Thanks this was fun! And challenging as well. 👍 The forum is rather sleepy at the moment, but with real shows starting again soon the traffic might pick up a bit. Down the road, I'm thinking about a prize draw among the people who answer the most of these quizzes... probably not for the most correct answers, because it would be easy to cheat, but like a participation prize. Working on it!
  21. 🤘😄 Actually the Stratovarius show that Emppu went to is even mentioned in the band biography, Jukka went with him and caught a drumstick thrown by Stratovarius' drummer!
  22. I thought I would drop this here... It's a nice (older) article about Brother Firetribe, Emppu's former "backup" band -- how they came to be, their music, etc. https://bravewords.com/features/brother-firetribe-a-journey-beyond-the-realms-of-nightwish BROTHER FIRETRIBE - A Journey Beyond The Realms Of NIGHTWISH June 10, 2014 By Carl Begai When Brother Firetribe surfaced in 2006 with the smart-ass titled False Metal debut, the buzz that accompanied them had very little to do with the fact they sounded like a throwback to the days of Journey, Survivor and House Of Lords. A much bigger deal was Nightwish guitarist Emppu Vuorinen's presence as a card-carrying permanent band member, which served them well in getting some much needed attention. Unfortunately for Brother Firetribe, Vuorinen's status also means having to play the waiting game while he takes care of his Nightwish commitments as they come down, which resulted in a six year gap between their second album, Heart Full Of Fire, and the new slab of rock Diamond In The Firepit. "The band was born with that cross to bear," says vocalist Pekka Ansio Heino, unperturbed. "Back in 2010 we did the last gig for the previous album and did the DVD (Live At Apollo), and then Nightwish went on their way touring the world again, so we agreed on taking a break and it was a much needed break. It wasn't a problem. Life just went on, everybody got busy trying to make a living, and all of a sudden we realized 'Holy shit, it's been way too long since the last album, let's start doing something.'" Bottom line, though, is that Brother Firetribe sleeps and lives by Nightwish's schedule. "That's true," Heino agrees, "but back then I had Leverage so I had my hands full, too. Brother Firetribe came out of getting together and having fun, having a few beers while writing some songs. All of a sudden we realized we had a bunch of songs, and somebody was crazy enough to sign us (laughs). We didn't really have any intention of doing an album in the first place, so this band was born as a side project. Nobody expected anything. Without Emppu's involvement I'm not so sure anybody would have been interested; that's a fact. We had an advantage in that sense because we drew more attention than some other bands making a debut album. But, at the end of the day I think we really made our mark. People forgot about talking about Brother Firetribe as Emppu's solo project pretty quickly because the music speaks for itself." For Vuorinen, Brother Firetribe is a way for him to stretch his fretwork and maybe enjoy a little bit more of the spotlight even though he's still playing second to the keyboard player. Hell, take a good listen and you'll notice Diamond In The Firepit is loaded with very un-Nightwish-like guitar fills and solos. "I think this is the best thing for each of us because we don't have any pressure on us about anything," says Heino. "Everybody can let loose, and like you said, that's especially true for Emppu. You're absolutely spot-on with that. Nightwish is a great band and a great job to have, and Brother Firetribe is his vacation." Which is very true given that Vuorinen isn't one of the principal songwriters in Brother Firetribe. "It's always been me and Tomppa (Nikulainen), the keyboard player, just the two of us that write the songs," Heino reveals. "We write the songs, we demo them with a drum machine, keyboards and my vocals. Then we send the files to the other guys so they can arrange their own parts. Of course, that's when the songs start to change a bit. Emppu has his own style; he's very delicate and he has all these nuances in his playing, a lot of trademark things in how he carries the song, so he comes up with some brilliant stuff." Cliché questions about the bands that influenced Brother Firetribe are hardly necessary. Give Diamond In The Firepit just one spin and it's readily apparent where the band's roots are dug in deep. "As a band I don't think we've even discussed other bands and their music. We're totally focused on writing our own stuff. To be honest, I'm not even sure what the other guys listen to when they get home. There are obvious influences like Van Halen - 5150 and 1984 - and everything from that era with big keyboards. The Brother Firetribe sound is pretty much based on keyboards. I've always loved it. That's what kind of sparked the whole thing when I started writing songs. I fell in love with the stuff that Tomppa came up with, those big keyboard riffs. Totally 1984 Van Halen (laughs)." Heino makes no apologies for the fact Brother Firetribe sounds like they were yanked out of the same era as Journey's monstrous Escape album (1981) and Survivor's radio-friendly Vital Signs record (1984). Call the band dated, call them cheesy, he's good with it. "If you write a good song it doesn't really matter what clothes it's wearing. That's always been my opinion. I'm never going to say we're not a melodic rock AOR band because we are, we fall into that category. It's never been a problem for me when people put us in that box. It's all about good songs. If somebody thinks that we're too old school or too cheesy, I don't believe that because I know where we stand with our music. Personally, I think it's quality stuff no matter what you call it. I like the songs and I think they're produced really well. This is also the best stuff to go on stage with. I don't want to go to a rock concert and see people who are depressed on stage. I understand that whole grunge thing, for example, but it's not for me. If I go to a concert I like to have a good time, and Brother Firetribe's stuff is made to be played on stage." Ultimately, the stage is where Brother Firetribe find acceptance, consistently winning over the music police infiltrating their ranks of fans on the floor and the folks at the back of the room holding up the bar. "And it's the best feeling in the world (laughs). You see those guys in the audience in their 50s and even their 60s in the audience with their beer bellies and Deep Purple t-shirts, on the other side there are the emo Nightwish fans who are between 12 and 20, and somewhere in the middle you see these black metal guys who look like penguins. Those guys are standing there doing nothing, but when the gig is over we've had them come up to us and say 'You did a great job.' That's a really cool thing to have such a wide range of people in the audience."
  23. Bestwishes (compilation, 2005) Japan exclusive release by Toy's Factory. There is no new material on this album. The track selection is interesting, no other compilation has included songs such as "The Riddler" and "Crownless"! Moreover, despite a 2005 release no songs from "Once" were included. Track list (with relevant threads when available): Stargazers (OB, 1998) The Kinslayer (WM, 2000) She Is My Sin (WM, 2000) Ever Dream (CC, 2002) Come Cover Me (WM, 2000) Know Why The Nightingale Sings (AFF, 1997) Bless The Child (CC, 2002) End Of All Hope (CC, 2002) The Riddler (OB, 1998) Sleepwalker (Eurovision version, 2000 single) Crownless (WM, 2000) Sacrament Of Wilderness (OB, 1998) Walking In The Air (Howard Blake cover, OB, 1998) Beauty And The Beast (AFF, 1997) Wishmaster (WM, 2000) Over The Hills And Far Away (Gary Moore cover, OTHAFA, 2001) Sleeping Sun (1998 single)
  24. Ouch, I failed! 😄 Looking forward to the correct answers!
