  1. After the evolution of GLS ending, here's another fun compilation: the evolution of the Nemo ending! 👍
  2. It was also launched on my birthday. 😁 Finland is definitely on my list of trips once the dust settles on the pandemic. Sure thing, maybe you can start a topic in "General Chat". 👍 Do you need to use polls? Normally these should be available to all members.
  3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXLml7FTVQQ This recording has popped up recently on YouTube... and I'm all over it! This is some rare live footage from the 1999 Kanavarantarock show. It's actually the earliest material combining real live sound with real live images that I know of, given that many early bootlegs were audio only and that live performances were often mixed with studio audio tracks. So we have the band playing a small venue on a makeshift stage without any stage lighting, before a crowd of 100, perhaps 200 people? This summer tour was well described in the biography, where Jukka recalls: "Tommi [Stolt, bus driver and lighting tech] calls it the 'summer where Nightwish took turns performing with cows', as we were playing all over Finland in these strange, local county fairs, you know! Lindfors [Lenny Lindfors, their booking agent at that time] just kept booking the shows until we had to sack him." Tuomas adds: "We also played in an event called Enon Kanavarantarock in which we had no lights on stage -- not one single spot. We played at one in the morning, and the only light we had came from Tero's flashlight when he was trying to fix Sami's broken-down amplifier. It had fallen apart the instant the intro tape started rolling!" Tuomas probably mixed two separate events as it is clear from the video that Nightwish didn't play Eno at one in the morning. Anyhow, the camera work here is less than stellar, there are many gaps in the video, but there are also some good close-ups and a fine overall recording of the band in this very early performance. The sound quality is also ok considering this is shot from the crowd. Here's my breakdown of the video: 0:00 Intro (from tape -- ID required) 0:31 "Sacrament of Wilderness" (partial) 3:22 "Astral Romance" (very small fragment) 3:26 "Katyusha", Russian folk song a part of which is played at the end of "Astral Romance" 3:40 "Stargazers" (partial) 4:28 "Passion And The Opera" (partial) 6:10 "Know Why the Nightingale Sings" (partial) 9:36 "Gethsemane" (partial) 13:58 "Walking In The Air" (partial) 14:58 "Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean" 19:09 "Moondance" medley 21:05 "Elvenpath" 25:06 "The Pharaoh Sails To Orion" (partial) "Moondance" is, again, quite different from the album version. I'm not sure if the medley is all original or a cover of something else, and surprisingly there's no mention of it anywhere.
  4. Hey Sanna, welcome and thanks for the nice introduction! Funny that you would mention "Over The Hills And Far Away", as that EP just celebrated 20 years a few days ago (released on June 25, 2001)! Usually we have forum skins rotating for the various albums but I sort of skipped OTHAFA as it's not a full album and the cover was not very inspiring, but I digress. It looks like you might be lucky enough to have live NW shows in Finland this year, if the Covid situation remains under control. I'd love to see them in Finland one day, as the energy will be different on their home turf... but it won't be this year as it doesn't seem safe and practical to travel long distance yet. Do you have a ticket for any of their upcoming shows?
  5. Looking forward to more from these guys! 👍

    Delain

Original Delain drummer Sander Zoer is returning as part of the new band being formed around Martijn Westerholt. Clues point to more member "re-introductions" in the near future. I'm especially interested in who the new singer(s) will be. Also, can we expect Marko Hietala to return as a special guest? Unlikely in the short term I suppose.
  7. This is interesting news for Tarja fans, and perhaps there will be something for NW fans in general as well: a photo-biography. "Tarja tells her story of making music, with rare and unseen photographs. ‘Singing is in my blood. Ever since I was a little girl, I have enjoyed performing … but not being able to be on stage in 2020 I spent a lot of time looking through photo albums, seeing all those happy scenes of childhood, growing up and making music, getting to know my fans and travel the world recording and performing, having fun; those memories fill this book’. Frustrated at not being able to perform live and see her fans for the past year, Tarja has gone through thousands and thousands of photos of her life. She looked at artworks, sessions, tours, life…and saw how she has grown. It brought back lots of great memories and they’re all in Singing In My Blood. There will be two hardback editions of this special book, which offers an intimate and behind-the-scenes look at Tarja making music in the studio, on stage and at home. The Signature edition will be signed by Tarja and include two exclusive and unseen 280 x 220mm photographic prints. Both editions include scores of previously unseen photographs as well as contributions from some of Tarja’s closest friends and colleagues, too. Singing In My Blood will be available to preorder in a few weeks, but the website, www.tarjabook.com is ready now for people to register for the chance to have a name printed in the book and get a discount when preorder begins. ‘In Singing In My Blood I tell my story about making music and share lots of personal photos. I think you’ll love it…’"
  8. From Frontiers Music FB: Current The Dark Element (and ex-Nightwish) vocalist Anette Olzon is set to release her new solo album, "Strong" via Frontiers Music Srl on September 10, 2021. Today, fans can get their first listen to new music with the release of the single and video for the track 'Parasite'. Watch the video HERE: https://youtu.be/eEbQWMOPBO0 Pre-order/save "Strong" on CD/Color LP/Digital HERE: https://orcd.co/anettestrong And also, very important, please join us in wishing Anette a very Happy Birthday today! [It's her 50th birthday] “'Parasite' is a song about those who create disaster in this world with their lies, their schemes, their greed and hate. Hiding their intentions behind a respectable facade,” says Anette Olzon of the albums' first single. “Living in a world of a bit of chaos with a pandemic, crazy politics, violence, social media behavior and people venting their opinions upon others all the time is the foundation behind the idea of the lyrics for the album. Musically, I wanted a much heavier album, yet with strong melodies and took my inspiration from bands I like such as Dimmu Borgir and In Flames,” she continues. This will be Anette's second solo album, following 2014's "Shine," and offers a harder, faster musical offering compared to the debut. More importantly, "Strong" stakes a claim for Anette’s well-deserved standing as one of the world's top female metal vocalists. The music for "Strong" was written and composed together with acclaimed Swedish guitarist and producer Magnus Karlsson. Together, Anette and Magnus managed to create an outstanding collection of songs which showcase Anette’s enormous vocal range alongside Karlsson’s incendiary riffs. The songs are heavy, but still quite melodic and contemporary in their approach to the genre style. Additionally, "Strong" is mixed by Jacob Hansen (Pretty Maids, Volbeat, The Dark Element, etc.). All in all, “Strong” is an album that masters the borders between heaviness and hookiness, all while showing an artist who doesn't rest on her laurels, but heads boldly into the future. Tracklist: 1. Bye Bye Bye 2. Sick Of You 3. I Need To Stay 4. Strong 5. Parasite 6. Sad Lullaby 7. Fantastic Fanatic 8. Who Can Save Them 9. Catcher Of My Dreams 10. Hear Them Roar 11. Roll The Dice LINE-UP: Anette Olzon - Vocals Magnus Karlsson - Guitars Anders Köllerfors - Drums Johan Husgafvel – Bass
  9. Good question... I know of an official EFMB guitar tablature book, that may still be available but that won't help with keyboard parts. https://musiikkimuseofame.fi/en/product/nightwish-endless-forms-now-beautiful-guitar-tablature-song-book
/ There used to be an official Once Songbook that can still be found second hand with a little luck. https://www.ebay.com/itm/174804355415 Also there are tons of fan transcriptions out there but I'm not sure whether they're really accurate. https://musescore.com/sheetmusic/artists/nightwish Anyone else on this?
  10. Oh and there's even a lyrical video.
  11. Ok here's the full thing! Tarja sings Until My Last Breath and Sleeping Sun... I must admit that this version of Sleeping Sun is pure fun!

  13. From Floor's social media: "SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT! For so long it felt like this moment would never come. Next month I will be playing live in front of you again! I am happy to announce that I'll perform at Het Zomertheater on July 15!! Tickets will go on sale June 19, 11 AM CET! Are you coming??" I don't suppose this will be the show recorded for her Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign yet.
  14. The first single is coming: Let's go "Pearl Diving"... this Friday, June 18th https://auri.bfan.link/pearl-diving.fpo
  15. Tarja has been invited to this quirky Finnish TV show called Seagull's Nest, about a band of musicians building a tree house and inviting more musicians for playing stuff together (or at least this is my understanding of it). Presumably the show will be available on YouTube later.
  16. A new interview with Kai and Tuomas on MTV (Finnish outlet): https://www.mtvuutiset.fi/artikkeli/tuomas-holopainen-paljastaa-koska-seuraava-nightwishin-albumi-saattaa-nahda-paivanvalon-olen-jo-kaynyt/8157692#gs.3tsu16 Sorry for the poor translation! Tuomas Holopainen reveals because Nightwish's next album may see the light of day: "I've already visited ..." Finland's largest metal band, Nightwish, turns 25 this year. Nightwish has achieved a lot over the last quarter of a century, but the band’s enthusiasm for playing and making new music has not waned. The band's lead character Tuomas Holopainen says that he looks with great pride at the curve seen during Nightwish's career. - The band still sounds like Nightwish, but during the nine records we have always managed to renew and find the thing interesting. - Sometimes there have been quite a few roller coasters, but this has given so much more than what it has taken. According to Holopainen, making music, telling stories and being together have always been the main thing for the band members. All the crises experienced along the way are in a completely secondary position. “I want to make more records” There have been many highlights in Nightwish's extensive career, but according to Holopainen, the band still has a lot to achieve and new things to experience. - I want to make more records, take Nightwish's development even further and come up with new musical stuff, Holopainen says. - New things come as a surprise many times, and you can't always be terribly influenced by them. Sometimes things just seem to fall into place, Nightwish drummer Kai Hahto continues. Nightwish’s music has changed several times over the years, and the band members have also changed at a rapid pace. For example, the German band Helloween has made a strong new comeback in recent years with a so-called expanded line-up that combines many different eras of the band. According to Hahto, doing a similar trick in the future is not completely ruled out for Nightwish. - In fact, we haven't even thought about that yet. Instead, we have considered playing a concert with a large symphony orchestra, but such a gig is very logistically very difficult to implement. Tenth record under construction Holopainen reveals that he has already started preparing for his next Nightwish album. However, at this stage, he is not yet able to tell in which direction the band's music will develop next. - In recent weeks, I have already visited the next Nightwish [album] to sketch a bit. - At this stage, however, it is impossible to say whether the nature trilogy will make its decision on the next album, or whether we will start to smell completely new winds here. With certainty, however, Holopainen can tell you that a new record is indeed coming. - In 2023 we go to the studio, and something interesting is coming from there again. The release of the next Nightwish album can therefore probably be expected until 2024. Watch the video for more thoughts on the band’s 25-year history and future plans. [Finnish only]

    Epica

I just watched the Epica concert... It was pretty good, and the production was very impressive. Actually it was so polished and extravagant and well rehearsed and ready for DVD that it didn't feel live at all. Actually it felt like watching a movie performance with a studio soundtrack. So there was lots of post-production involved, but all in all it was a worthy show. 👍
  18. Okay here's the real deal! Not my favourite of the covers, but it's nice to see a collaboration for a change, and both are singing admirably well. It's just not a piece of music that grabs my attention.
  19. Ok here we go: Dangerous Game (from the musical Jekyll & Hyde). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLS_kLzBU40 The video will presumably come out later.
  20. Let's compare! Original: Remastered: In all honesty I hear no difference, of course the YouTube compression algorithms are maybe cancelling some of the improvements on the remaster.
  21. Ha! These guys are so funny! "I found the song I want to be played at my funeral!" 🤣

    Delain

Here's an interesting interview with Martijn Westerholt about his future projects for Delain but also about the mechanics of Delain and how the split came about. Lots of details, from his perspective of course. https://arrowlordsofmetal.nl/delain-video-interview-with-martijn-westerholt/ While we're at it, here's Charlotte Wessels' statement about the split back in February.
  23. "Happy to announce that tomorrow a new cover will go live with none other than the Phantom, Henk Poort! ❤️ Tomorrow 4PM CET the video will go live! You can stream the track at midnight! 🎧 Excited?!"
  24. I'm pretty excited about the whole thing, given the quality of the remastered work on Decades. Also, Taubertal live recording is a great bonus! And extra tracks!
