  1. The official reports of Anette Olzon leaving Nightwish are rather confusing and don't help at all understanding how the divorce came about. For instance, here's the story according to the official web site: https://www.nightwish.com/band#bio "The unexpected chain of events begins in late September, as vocalist Anette Olzon falls sick and is rushed to hospital just before the concert in Denver, Colorado. As Nightwish do not want to disappoint the fans that have already filled the venue, after a quick counsel, they decide to take the stage after all, performing the songs with the help of Elize Ryd and Alissa White-Gluz of the support band Kamelot. Olzon returns to front the band for one more performance, but nothing can prevent the ending of a chapter in the story of Nightwish. After the concert in Salt Lake City on September 29, Olzon and the band part ways. The situation is challenging to say the least, as Nightwishโ€™s professional ethic does not let them cancel the remaining eleven concerts of the important US tour. The band immediately contact their old friend Floor Jansen, who had proven her vocal skills in the Dutch band After Forever. The timetable seems nearly impossible, but against all odds, Nightwish take the stage in Seattle on October 1st with Floor Jansen as their singer. Having rehearsed the vocal parts during the intercontinental flight, Jansen tackles the formidable challenge amazingly well, and the band get to sigh in relief. The tour can go on, and whatโ€™s even better, Jansen, whose skillful vocals and dedicated stage presence are immediately recognized, receives a great welcome by the fans on the West Coast, in Florida, and elsewhere in the US." This raises only more questions -- does the chain of events really begin only two days before Anette is fired? How does Anette being sick leads to her leaving the band? How does Floor manage to sing in Seattle without the band skipping a single show? The surprisingly candid documentary "Please Learn The Setlist In 48 Hours", while extremely revealing about the stress prevailing at the time in the band, doesn't provide answers either. In order to reconstruct the chain of events I thought of posting a few notes I had saved from the days of this second major schism in the NW lineup. The intent is not to rekindle an endless debate but rather to provide some background -- for old fans to relive a traumatic and divisive event, and also for new fans to get some perspective on how the events were lived and perceived by fandom at the time. Enjoy and feel free to add to the thread if you have related info! From Wiki: This is how it happened.

  4. I just had to post this, it's beautiful! Floor and Troy playing Nemo live!
  5. It's the final countdown! Five days until release, hopefully most fans will be able to get their hands on the record in good time, despite the store closures and potential shipping delays. Definitely not the best time to release a new album, with people everywhere fighting for safety and sanity, and the support tour likely delayed for a good few months at the least. Nightwish and Floor have been posting short video capsules on YouTube about the new album, to remind us that the wait is finally (almost) over!
  6. Still no word on the Official NW site about any changes to the South American tour in May, and tickets are still on sale for the May 5 gig in Chile. But it seems highly unlikely that international travel will be possible in May, and that the pandemic will be under control in South America by then. Other May-June shows in North America have long been canceled or postponed, so it's just a matter of time before an announcement about the Human Nature tour has to be made.
  7. Already it seems that the China tour has fallen victim to the Covid-19 pandemic, to be postponed to October 2020. However with worldwide spread of the virus and the current lockdown in Italy, it's likely that other venues will also be affected sooner or later. Follow the state of the tour here.
  8. Ad Astra is now available on YouTube and elsewhere, as a promotional video for a collaboration between NW and World Trust Fund (the same Fund sponsored by the Indiegogo Floor campaign). It's a quite a beautiful and powerful piece of music, and the video is nice too!
  9. Second single, Harvest, just popped up on YouTube and elsewhere while I was away! More thoughts on it shortly, but at first listen a much simpler song than Noise, in that celtic-meets-metal vein of My Walden and others before, but enjoyable and will probably sound great live. Need to give it more spins to form a better opinion! But I like it so far.
  10. Hey whitenoise, welcome! Sorry for not replying more quickly, I was out of the country for the entire week. Anyway, please feel free to comment wherever you like, I'm slowly building up some material to add to the site. And eventually traffic will pick up, but this place is not about traffic but more about discussing NW and similar interests in a less crowded venue.
  11. Dates for the "North American Tour" were published today. Four gigs only, one in Canada (Toronto), two in Hollywood and one in New York, September 2020. On top of what appears to be a very short North America tour, rumours fly that the China gigs might be cancelled because of the Covid-19 (coronavirus) threat. ๐Ÿคจ
  12. Well it didn't take long, the extended goal of 35 000 euros that would guarantee a backstage doc will be reached in a matter of hours! Now the only thing missing would be a download link for the backers, and everything would be perfect!
  13. Today Floor launched an Indiegogo campaign to crowdfund a digital release of her solo live show. More details on her Indiegogo page here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/floor-jansen-digital-live-release/x/16094815 A few hours in and already she has reached 40% of her goal! ๐Ÿ˜„
  14. The 2020 World Tour is starting in April in China. Or is it? What is that show mentioned on the official site on Feb 13, in Interlaken? Weird. Anyway, the first live performance of new material will probably be on April 10th, on the special "Nevski & The Prospects" gig in Oulu! No North American shows yet announced, will they come here in September or only next year? 16. It's a great time to be a NW fan, with new material just about to be released, after a 5-year break! Your thoughts on Noise, the first single, or the promotion surrounding album #9 ?
  17. It's only fair to start this by introducing myself. Big Nightwish fan since mid-2015, I was pretty much sucked in by listening to Showtime Storytime vids on Youtube. I do remember listening to Walking In The Air earlier on (2012) and wondering who those guys were, but it took some time before I came back to the band. My previous metal-ish interests were Lacuna Coil, Evanescence (I know, soft stuff) and Dream Theater. I have always been a progressive rock fan, but leaning more into heavier stuff as time goes by. I decided to launch this forum because I'm old fashioned and I love forums. I haven't been a member of Nightwish Online for very long before it went dark, but I loved the place as much as anyone else and spent way too much time going through the tons of archives there. I was devastated to see it go away, and I still cling on the hope that it can be brought back. But in the mean time, as much as I'm happy that there's a vibrant Discord community (or two) available, I gave it a try but it's not my style. Too difficult to go back and reread old conversations, it's just all too hectic for an old forty-something like me. ๐Ÿ˜ So yeah, this is a new forum for those who like the slower pace and community spirit. I have no links to the band, and I'm paying this from my own pocket. Feel free to ask any questions you have, and I may write up a forum FAQ if the forum gains traction. Enjoy!
