Listened to the new single a few times, I'm still processing it but it's interesting, sounds different from what we're used to.

Video will probably be available only tomorrow, I hear there's a world premiere reveal in Helsinki with possibly Stobe Harju and Tuomas present?

Here's the lyrics I found:

[Verse 1]
Take shelter, skies are humming
Armageddon, second coming
War of the worlds, the end of history
Take shelter, floods are rising
The wrath of thunderous drumming
End of days for mankind, and for your kin
Fill those empty moments, fear more
In this grave new world of '84
Fast death, last breath, A.I. to kill us all
Horse waste covering London
Martians among us, Y2K
Hoard, all aboard, the end is near

[Chorus]
We are the ill-starred kids of your junkyard
The innocent islands unscarred
The moment of our nadir
So many times passed thе due date
Too late, gathеr up
It's the day of

[Verse 2]
Purgatory, same old story
Cower before a caliphate glory
The big read of today will gallow you
Keep you small
Here's a million ropes for the hangman
Nightmare cavalcade for the sandman
Mind virus, fear of the well-known
Keep us safe (Keep us safe)
We are too many for our Mother
Crops will burn so why bother
A new strain sent you back into your cave
Obey, stay away, cover up
Fear the words, feeding humanity
Hide the unshot guns and the crippled dancing

[Chorus]
We are the ill-starred kids of your junkyard
The innocent islands unscarred
The moment of our nadir
So many times passed the due date
Too late, gather up
It's the day of

[Instrumental Break]

[Refrain]
It's a long road to a dreamworld
All the pain and suffering to feel for
It's there, but yours is an empty sermon

[Verse 3]
Made up the sun rising
Made sense of equus flying
Time for another fear made real
A need to feel dread, gloom, awe
A lust for never-ending doom porn
A man-shaped evil walks among us
Obey, stay away, cover up
Fear the words, the feed, feed the human beast
Hide the unshot guns, the end is fear

[Chorus]
We are the ill-starred kids of your junkyard
The innocent islands unscarred
The moment of our nadir
So many times passed the-

I deleted part of the first post by mistake while creating this new thread, sorry for that! 😖

Fourth Nightwish video by director Stobe Harju.

Tuomas about the song:

"Without spoiling any details, to me, the album is very optimistic, even the song “The Day Of…” has a very optimistic message behind it. What Floor does in that song is acting to be somebody else. She’s the preacher of fear, the fearmonger, and then we get children in the choruses who say how things really should be. When they both join together for the last chorus, that’s when the magic happens."

Obviously it's a few days before it premieres, but I did find the music video for "The Day of...".

The song is growing on me as I listened to it many more times. 👍

I like the style of the video, but I'm not sure about the content. I think I get that the message is about the resilience of humanity and how our biggest enemy is our fears, but I'm not sure what the video is supposed to show -- Floor 'inoculates' the band repeatedly, is it meant to denigrate the usefullness of vaccination? Paint Covid as a self-imposed paranoid fear? Probably there are other possible interpretations, so I will be waiting for Tuomas to explain what he meant there.

‘The Day Of...'

Firstly, a big thanks for all the comments from you on my previous Nightwish posts. I didn’t get to reply to all of them as I’ve been busy on other projects (some of which I’ll be talking about in due course), but this week I’ll get back to those of you that didn’t get a reply. I’m so pleased that so many of you are interested in the orchestral and choral elements of Nightwish. Maybe we could do a question and answer session with the wonderful Pip Williams and myself?

Secondly, Hope you’re all enjoying ‘The Day Of…’ Personally I really like this track, and it’s quite different from the rest of the album. I like the 80’s vibe, this was a clever angle for this song, it wouldn’t have sounded so fresh without it. The simple structure of the song and concise ideas make it catchy, and I love the colour of the featured children’s choir on the chorus.

The orchestral and choral elements on this song are actually very simple, it’s a full string ensemble, a full adult choir (used quite sparsely), and a 30 piece children’s choir. The Nightwish Band are doing all the heavy lifting in this track, so the string ensemble are there to help 'open up' the song on the chorus and add some extra frenetic energy to those guitar riffs!

I’ll post another detailed breakdown of the orchestration later in the week. I’ll also talk a bit more about our wonderful Nightwish Choirs and the massive contribution that they make to the Nightwish sound.

Have a great week everyone!

An orchestral version of the song has been uploaded by the band to YouTube which surprised me.

Earbook promotion, no doubt! I wish there were a jewel case version including the orchestral CD, instead of the Dolby Atmos Blu-ray almost no one has the right gear to fully enjoy.

Finnish humour?

The "Funniest Person in the World", Finnish comedian ‪Ismo Leikola reacts to the video for Nightwish's song "The Day Of...".

It's a little awkward in my opinion, except for the last 30 seconds or so which are actually really funny.
